Meet the team: Jose Carlos Melendez
How long have you been working at Ivaldi? How did it all start?
I’ve been working at Ivaldi for almost 4 years now.
I used to have my own design company, making exhibition stands, displays, and personalized products like jewelry and furniture. One day I had the opportunity to work with a technology company called WACOM, they asked me to design specific booths to show their product and the easiest way to make them was using 3D printed joints and other printed details, the problem was that I had no idea about how to 3D print something, I bought a cheap 3D printer and made tests until I made the product, after that, I got obsessed with the technology and started making different tests.
That day I realized that I had a lot to learn about the new manufacturing methods and how to implement them, so, I decided to look for a job in that area to learn more about additive manufacturing, after a few months I found Ivaldi’s job post, and here I am… learning more and more every day.
What is your expertise/ role?
My expertise is in product design, making the convergence between creative and logical thinking to provide tangible solutions, making them possible using technology to move from a raw sketch to a physical product, also improving products by applying design methodologies and testing.
As a product designer, I can work not only on physical products but also digital, researching, and analyzing how to improve the UX in our platform, always advocating for the user.
What’s your favorite part about working at the company?
How open they are about us participating in the projects, they always integrate the interested persons if they want to learn or be part of something.
Also, I like that they promote the balance between life and work.
What are the company’s values you stand for?
Communication: Having recreational meetings helps to reinforce team communication and trust in each other, I like that we can express ourselves without being judged.
Work-life balance: It is healthy to have time for yourself and your family, at Ivaldi, that is a priority.
How do you spend your time outside of work? What do you enjoy doing?
Even though I’m not athletic at all, I like playing basketball; But when I’m in a “looking for inspiration” mood, I draw.
What I enjoy doing the most is cooking, which is like my therapy after work. I don’t like following recipes or rules and when I cook is the same… To me, improvising in the kitchen is the best recipe to clear your mind and enjoy that moment.
